Frequently Asked Questions

If you use text messaging to communicate with your audience, you need to know about 10DLC registration. 10DLC stands for 10-digit long code, and it's a new way for businesses to send text messages. 10DLC registration is required for all organizations that want to send text messages in the United St

10DLC stands for 10-digit long code. It is a type of phone number that is used in the United States for application-to-person (A2P) messaging & person-to-person messaging (P2P). A2P messaging is the sending of text messages from businesses to consumers by way of an application or system. P2P messaging is the sending of text messages from non commercial organizations to an audience with a single person sending a text to another person. 10DLC numbers can include any US area code.

10DLC numbers are different from toll-free numbers in a few ways. First, 10DLC numbers can be used for both transactional and promotional messaging. Transactional messages are messages that are sent for a specific purpose, such as confirming an order or sending a password reset.

Promotional messages are messages that are sent to promote an organization or service.

10DLC registration is the process for getting approval by mobile network carriers to send text messages to users. This process is required for all organizations that want to send text messages in the United States.

When you register for 10DLC, you are asking mobile carriers to recognize your organization's 10-digit long codes (phone numbers) as belonging to your organization. This process helps to ensure that your text messages are delivered reliably and that your users are not bombarded with spam.

There are a few reasons why 10DLC registration is important:

  • Increased deliverability: 10DLC messages are more likely to be delivered to recipient's phones than messages sent from regular phone numbers.
  • Reduced spam: 10DLC messages are less likely to be flagged as spam by mobile carriers.
  • Improved customer experience: 10DLC messages provide a better customer experience by allowing organizations to send more personalized and targeted messages.

The 10DLC registration process is a three-step process:

  1. Register your brand: This is a form of verification to ensure that only legitimate companies are given access to 10DLC number registration. There are a number of ways to register your business, but the method that’s right for you can depend on what type of business you are, and other key details. Generally speaking, you’ll input your information into a form, and once that form is approved you’ll be a registered brand. Registered brands can then take the next step in the process, and register their numbers.
  2. Register your numbers: Once you have registered your brand, you can then associate your 10-digit numbers and get registered. This process is relatively simple, and you will need to provide some basic information about your numbers, such as the area code and the phone number.
  3. Register your campaigns: Once you have registered your numbers, you can then register your campaigns. This is where you will specify the types of messages that you will be sending, and the frequency with which you will be sending them. You will also need to provide a sample message for each campaign.

The 10DLC registration process can be a bit overwhelming, but it is important to remember that it is a necessary step for organizations that want to send text messages to users in the United States. By following these steps, you can make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.

Here are some additional tips for the registration process:

  • Make sure that all of the information you provide is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Be as clear and concise as possible when describing your campaigns and sample messages.
  • Proofread your application carefully before submitting it.

The registration process for 10DLC requires the following information:

  • Company name: The full, legal name of your business.
  • Organization type: The type of organization you are, such as a nonprofit, publicly traded company, or sole proprietorship.
  • Country: The country in which your business is registered.
  • Tax ID: The tax identification number for your organization, also known as an EIN.

You may already have this information on hand, or you may be able to get it from your organization's records. There are two other pieces of information that you may need.

  • Descriptions of all of the text campaigns you will be using: This information is important for mobile carriers to understand how you plan to use your 10DLC numbers.
  • Sample messages for each text campaign: This information is also important for mobile carriers to understand what types of messages you will be sending.

If you do not have this information on hand, you may need to contact your marketing department to get it. Once you have gathered all of this information, you can begin the 10DLC registration process.

As of March 2022, any non-registered messaging that isn’t 10DLC compliant will suffer from some or all of the following consequences:

  • Messages not being delivered at all
  • Filtering and blocking of some messages
  • Higher messaging rates for your company (imposed by mobile carriers)

These consequences are in place to protect consumers from spam and unwanted messages. If you are an organization that sends text messages, it is important to register for 10DLC to avoid these consequences.
